Tatiana Castellanos

Tatiana came to Canada from Colombia 14 years ago and made Montreal a new home. She is passionate about culture, art, human behaviour, social interactions, wellness and healing. Tatiana believes that creative expression is a key to self awareness and it is through the path of self exploration that she found meditation and yoga. For several years she has worked facilitating art workshops for children and adults and has had the opportunity to see the impact that artistic expression and the practice of meditation have on people’s lives and their health. While doing this work and cultivating her own mediation and yoga practice, she found the interrelationship between the two. Tatiana believes creating art is another way to access a meditative state of mind and benefit from the healing it brings. This experience motivated her to work towards the goal of making this medley of practices available to people, and offer it to their everyday lives. Tatiana has a Mindfulness training, is currently pursuing a training in the Insight Buddhist tradition and attends residential retreats periodically.

This work, Mobile Roots, is a development of the causes and conditions of my life before and during the present pandemic. Living in a suitcase, inhabiting new foreign spaces and having limited access to materials according to whatever could fit in the luggage I carried with me. This is a series based upon mobile inspirations, the cyclical nature of the present moment and all the emotions that arise from the continuous absorption of change; the encounter of unknown states of being that are nevertheless so familiar. This body of work is a realization about the inherent states of humanity and the history of my ancestors. Mobile Roots is a journey of re-discovery of these primal states of fear and interconnectedness, and everything that happens in between.
